Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan were recently omitted from the BCCI's annual central contracts list for the 2023-24 season. This decision stemmed from their absence in domestic cricket, particularly the Ranji Trophy, which is considered crucial by the BCCI for maintaining a player's form and readiness for international duties.

In a significant development, the BCCI has included both players in the National Cricket Academy’s (NCA) high-performance monitoring programme for the 2024-25 domestic season.

The main motive behind his programme is to help them regain their form and prove their fitness and commitment, potentially paving the way for their return to the national team.

Second Chance For Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan

A source close to the BCCI clarified that there are no hard feelings towards Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan. The board has high hopes from them as a renewed commitment to domestic cricket might help them regain their central contracts and potentially earn a recall to the Indian team.

“The BCCI has nothing against Iyer and Kishan. This is an opportunity for them to demonstrate their commitment to domestic cricket,” source within the board clarified to Times of India.

In the ongoing IPL 2024 under the leadership of Shreyas Iyer, Kolkata Knight Riders became the first team to qualify for the playoffs. With the bat, the dynamic batter has scored 287 runs in 12 matches with a strike rate of 135.38.

On the other hand, Ishan Kishan has scored 320 runs in 14 matches for Mumbai Indians.

Along with these two prominent names, other players like Musheer Khan has also been included in this programme after his promising all-rounder performance in the Under-19 World Cup.

Other players selected for the prestigious camp include Mayank Yadav, Umran Malik, Avesh Khan, and Riyan Parag. The camp, set to take place at the NCA facility in Bengaluru, will be led by chairman VVS Laxman.
