In an effort to salvage the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League which was postponed due to Covid-19 cases, the top brasses of the BCCI and the ECB are discussing to find a way around the Test series between the two sides to host the remaining portion of the league this year, as per a TOI report.
“BCCI and the ECB are in discussions to tweak the five-Test series. Details of those discussions aren’t public yet. But in whichever manner the ECB agrees to tweak the Test series, they will want the IPL in England because the counties can earn from it. There’ll be a good chance of a quid pro quo,” TOI quoted an unnamed BCCI official as saying.
The five-match long series between the sides is scheduled to start in the first week of August and will finish in September when the ICC World T20 is also scheduled to be played in India.
The BCCI had earlier indicated that they would find a window either before or after the ICC World T20 and hence a window in the UK while the Indian team will already be touring looks a possibility.
Meanwhile, the BCCI is in no mood to relinquish its right to host the ICC World T20 and instead it will seek time from the ICC before deciding the fate of the tournament in India, the TOI report added.
“Right now, India is the host venue for the World Cup. That’s how the Board is seeing it. If things go awry again, then a call will be taken only after the month of June. And yes, UAE is the second option,” the unnamed source said further.
