BBL 2022 Draft | Melbourne Renegades draw first pick, Perth Scorchers get sixth

The upcoming Big Bash League (BBL) overseas players draft is gaining momentum with draws being announced for the event scheduled for August.


The Melbourne Renegades will be able to draw the first pick, while the Hobart Hurricanes will have the last go in the first round. Defending champions Perth Scorchers will have the sixth pick. 


The order of the teams was decided upon by a weighted lottery, which took place on Wednesday.


The selection was done in two parts, where teams were separated based on the final standings in the last edition of the BBL.


The order is as follows :


1. Melbourne Renegades 

2. Melbourne Stars

3. Brisbane Heat

4. Sydney Sixers

5. Adelaide Strikers

6. Perth Scorchers

7. Sydney Thunder

8. Hobart Hurricanes

About 170 international players have registered for the first-ever BBL overseas player draft.


Big names include Faf du Plessis, Rashid Khan, Dwayne BravoKieron Pollard, Rilee Rossouw, and Colin Munro, who will be up for grabs.


The players have been separated into three classes - gold, silver, and bronze - while Cricket Australia (CA) can nominate in-demand players in the platinum class.



The clubs will have a chance to retain a player who must have represented the side last season.


Interestingly, players have the option to select their availability in the BBL as well.


A total of 56 season games and five-match finals will be played over 63 days starting December 13.
