Hobart Hurricanes thumped Melbourne Renegades by 85 runs on Wednesday in Melbourne after defending a target of 207 runs. Batting first, the Hurricanes rode on an emphatic ton from Ben McDermott and a late surge from Tim David to post 206/5 in 20 overs on the board.
While Dermott struck a 65-ball 127, David remained unbeaten at 30 off 9 during the course. Topley was the pick of the bowlers for his side after he returned with figures of 2/17 in 4 overs while Maddinson picked up one wicket at the cost of 13 runs in 2 overs.
Later, Melbourne Renegades didn’t really have a great start to the proceedings and they lost wickets at regular intervals to be left tottering at 102/6 before getting bundled out for 121 in 15.5 overs.
Thomas Rogers and Sandeep Lamichhane bagged three wickets each for their side.
McDermott, who etched his name in the record book after scoring his second ton on the trot said that he wants to make most of his form right now.
“I am not quite sure, can't put my finger on it but will make the most of it (the form). It was a little tricky to start with the new ball as it was not coming onto the bat. Be it smashing it into the stands or taking risky twos, it was my night and little bit of luck involved, that's T20 cricket. That's three on the trot for us and it is building up nicely. We are bowling well and scoring 180+, hope to carry forward the momentum,” he said after the match.
