Riding on some exceptional performance from their bowling unit, Perth Scorchers were crowned the BBL 2021-22 champions after they bundled out Sydney Sixers for 92 while chasing 172 in the final in Melbourne to win by 79 runs.
The Sydney side never really looked in control as they lost wickets at regular intervals before getting bowled out. Daniel Hughes was the only pick of the batters for the side after he chipped in with a 33-ball 42 but his dismissal in the 13th over certainly broke the shackles.
Andrew Tye returned with figures of 3/15 in 3 overs for Scorchers while Jhye Richardson had a couple of scalps to his name at the cost of 20 runs in 3.2 overs.
Earlier in the day, the Perth team too had a struggling start as they were reduced to 25/4 but Ashton turner and Laurie Evans then steadied the ship with a partnership of 104 runs for the fifth wicket.
Both the batsmen notched up individual fifties with Evans remaining unbeaten at 76 off 41 to help the side post 171/6 in 20 overs. Nathan Lyon returned with two wickets for 24 runs in 3 overs for Sydney Sixers.
"It's always interesting. Copped one on the nose from one of the shoulders (smiles, when asked about the blood from his nose). only played two games. Special mention to all the boys for a job well done," Richardson said after the match.
