Bangladesh Premier League 2020 canceled due to Covid-19 pandemic

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has confirmed the cancellation of this year’s Bangladesh Premier League T20 tournament in view of the Covid-19 pandemic. The announcement was made by BCB president Nazmul Hasan on Sunday.

“BPL is not happening this year. Let’s see it in next year. We do not want to miss any game but everything will depend on the situation and circumstances.” He said the decision was taken keeping in mind the participation of foreign cricketers and other logistics.

“Because whenever there is talk of BPL, there must be foreign cricketers. At the same time, there is a matter of production. Now if we can do those in Bangladesh then we have no objection.

“But it is a little bigger arrangement because of the number of players there and the team management are much higher. I don’t know if we are able to handle that or not,” Hasan said.

The BCB also ruled out the idea of shifting the tournament to a foreign country, just like the Indian Premier League which is taking place in UAE. Hasan said that majority of the franchises will have a hard time running their respective operations in such a scenario. He concluded by saying that the board doesn’t have the financial hand to take such initiatives.

IPL 2020 | SRH vs CSK: Match Preview, Predicted XI & Dream11 Fantasy Picks

The Chennai Super Kings are facing an unprecedented time in the ongoing season of the Indian Premier and staring at their lowest point in the history of the league. MS Dhoni likened the state of his team to a ship that has too many holes and while the captain (himself) tries to plug one hole, another on props to maintain the equilibrium of the team’s position. The team will face the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the next encounter as the first match of the round two of clashes between sides. Sunrises too, have not had the best of the IPL 2020 and have lost more matches than they have won halfway into the ongoing season. The team has not replicated the potential it has and the captain David Warner would do well to remind his team that half the battle to get into the playoffs has already been lost and any delay in finding form will see them miss out from the top four teams of the league. However, he needs to be a bit cautious as well as the team has not been horrible in the four matches it has lost so far, and that there are still seven matches left to be played which is a good amount of matches to turnaround an IPL season. On the other hand, the Chennai Super Kings have a long list of problems and as the captain, Dhoni has put in the best possible way drawing a comparison with a ship. The team has looked without any sound planning on the field and has been left in too much of preservation while batting at the start of the innings. The opening pair of Faf Du Plessis and Shane Watson has not been able to get going from the word go and the year-long belief of CSK batting to take time initially and backing the lower order batsmen to do the bulk of striking have not been working in this season. The team has been marred by a couple of withdrawals from Suresh Raina and Harbhajan Singh but nobody had expected that the team would look so toothless without them. A spin-heavy bowling line up has been the legacy of the Super Kings and their home ground Chepauk has played a significant part in their success over the years. The lack of spin in the pitches of the UAE may also have proved detrimental for the team but the CSK of old were very good at adapting to alien conditions and more often than not a hero used to emerge when the team was caught in pressure situations. All of that has unraveled in this season and the team needs a fresh approach to turn things around. Captain MS Dhoni has hinted at a possible change in the outlook of the batting line and emphasized the value of putting runs on the board when he said that preservation of wickets and taking the time initially mean nothing if the team finds itself short of the target at the end. Chasing, which has been a strong forte of the CSK side has been difficult in this IPL and the team in yellow has either opted to or been asked to chase in all the seven matches it has played. MS Dhoni needs to reboot the batting order and should look to separate the opening duo of Faf and Watson to bring in some momentum in the batting line up. On the other hand, the Sunrisers need to bring in power players who can strike big sixes and guide the team to high scores from the kind of middling scores the team is currently putting on the table. The team has shown the weakness of not being able to maintain momentum in the middle overs with calculative batting while striking big shots in the end overs have also been a prime concern. With the competition now heating up in this season and all the teams have already played half their matches, both these teams will be aware of the challenges before them and will be averse to giving even an inch of advantage to their opponent. The Super Kings have an upper hand in the head to head battle between the sides and MS Dhoni would be looking forward to extending the domination of the orange army. CSK has won 9 out of the 13 matches played between the two sides and if the Super Kings rediscover their mojo, it will be riveting contests between the sides led by Dhoni and David Warner. Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Chennai Super Kings: Match details Match Number- 29 Date: 13th October 2020, at 7:30 PM IST Venue: Dubai Pitch and weather The teams will face each other on a fresh pitch and it may assist new ball bowlers at the start of the match. There is a very low chance of the pitch getting slower while chasing but looking at the precedence in this season, teams will be wary of bowing first after winning the toss. The Super Kings have batted second in all their games so far and MS Dhoni would be hoping the rub of the green to his side at the toss so that his team can express themselves with the bat with no pressure of mounting strike rate. The weather is likely to remain cool in the evening time and players will be comfortable playing under temperature in the range of lower 30s. Team News Sunrisers Hyderabad The SRH lost the last game against the Rajasthan Royals and the bowling department turned out to be the culprit as it allowed the two inexperienced batsmen to take the game away from them after all the hard work. Khaleel Ahmed was impressive with the new ball but proved to be ineffective with the older one while Rashid Khan, too, was taken to the cleaners in his last over. The team may look to accommodate Mohammad Nabi in the XI to bring firepower in the lower batting order but that would mean leaving out a less explosive but highly reliable Kane Williamson, a choice David Warner would have hoped to avoid before the start of the tournament. The bowling line-up looks thin in the absence of Bhuvneshwar Kumar but David Warner has his hands tied with lack of options and there is a chance that all the bowlers who featured against the Royals will again make their way into the playing XI. Expected XI David Warner (c), Jonny Bairstow (wk), Manish Pandey, Kane Williamson, Vijay Shankar, Priyam Garg, Abhishek Sharma, Rashid Khan, Sandeep Sharma, Khaleel Ahmed, T Natarajan. Chennai Super Kings The Super Kings have lacked power in the batting lineup and MS Dhoni accepted the fat after the loss in the match against RCB. But, MS Dhoni and Stephen Fleming will have to rely on the same set of players who have failed to win games for the side so far in the season. There is a possibility that the team will try some changes in the batting order but the team is unlikely to be changed. One possible change could be slotting Narayan Jagadeesan at the top of the order with Shane Watson and slotting Du Plessis at number three followed by Ambati Rayudu and MS Dhoni at number four and five. Expected XI Shane Watson, Faf du Plessis, Ambati Rayudu, MS Dhoni (c & wk), N Jagadeesan, Sam Curran, Ravindra Jadeja, Dwayne Bravo, Shardul Thakur, Deepak Chahar, Karn Sharma Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Chennai Super Kings: Dream 11 team and suggestions Jonny Bairstow, David Warner, Faf Du Plessis, Ambati Rayudu, Sam Curran, Priyam Garg, Ravindra Jadeja, Deepak Chahar, Shardul Thakur, Khaleel Ahmed, Rashid Khan Captain: Faf Du Plessis Vice-captain: David Warner

IPL 2020: KKR releases official statement after Sunil Narine gets reported for suspect action

Kolkata Knight Riders released an official statement on spinner Sunil Narine’s suspect bowling action complaint. The franchise has stated that they are surprised about match officials’ concern over the mystery spinner’s action. Narine was reported after Kolkata’s miraculous victory over Kings XI Punjab. KL Rahul’s side slipped from a comfortable position as the two-time champions sealed a two-run win. Narine was the chief architect as he restricted Glenn Maxwell from snatching 2 points in the final over of the game. “Mr. Sunil Narine was reported for a suspect action by the match officials after KKR’s match vs KXIP held on Oct 10, 2020, in Abu Dhabi. This came as a surprise to the franchise and Mr. Narine, considering he has played over 115 games in the IPL since 2012 and as many as 68 games since 2015 when he was last reported during the IPL season for a suspect action before being subsequently cleared completely by SRASSC, an ICC accredited facility. “Furthermore, he was playing his 6th game this season, with no concerns expressed formally or informally by the match officials so far,” the statement read. The franchise has stated that it is working closely with the IPL officials on the subject. There are clouds of uncertainty over Narine’s presence for the match against Royal Challengers Bangalore on Monday. Another area of concern is all-rounder Andre Russell’s fitness. The Jamaican injured his knee during the match against Punjab and didn’t bowl thereafter. In case the duo fails to make the cut, Tom Banton and Chris Grenn are likely to make their respective debuts.

IPL 2020 | MI vs DC: What Experts said as clinical Mumbai go past the ‘Delhi’ gate with ease

Supposed to be the best contest of the tournament so far, the matchup between Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians turned out to be rather anti-climatic as the defending champions thumped the table-toppers by five wickets. The game was already finished by the 15th over of the second innings when Suryakumar Yadav added crucial runs with both Quinton de Kock and Ishan Kishan to take his team near the target. Chasing a modest target of 163, Mumbai were 130/3 after 15th over with just 33 needed from 30 balls. But the game didn’t quite end in easily as the lower order Mumbai batsmen almost made a mess of it before a Krunal Pandya four clinched it for the Rohit Sharma led side. Earlier choosing to bat first after winning the toss, Delhi couldn’t quite get to a total that they would have liked on the Abu Dhabi track. Hampered by injury to Rishabh Pant and therefore change being made in the successful playing 11 with last match hero Shimron Hetmyer being pulled out, Delhi could only score 162 in their allotted overs. Shikhar Dhawan was criticised for slow batting as he hit a 69 off 52 balls while Marcus Stoinis, the man in form for the Capitals got run out, giving Mumbai spinners a chance to block the flow of runs and they did it with Krunal leading the way. Captains' Viewpoints Speaking on the occasion of the post-match ceremony, winning captain Rohit Sharma said, “The kind of cricket we are playing gives us a lot of confidence. It's important to have momentum with us, and it was a perfect day for us, getting those crucial two points.” Pointing out the mistake of not being able to close in the game well, Rohit said, “Clinical with the bat, but not so much towards the end. We need one set batsman to finish off the game in general. “ Saying that he doesn’t want to ‘point fingers because chasing has been difficult in this tournament’, the 33-year-old asked the batsmen to buck up. Underscoring the importance of a long and quick partnership in the 20 over format, the Mumbaikar said, “We need to come out and play good cricket and keep a calm head while chasing. It's important to have partnerships and we did that today, which got us over the line.” On the other hand, it was only the second experience for Shreyas Iyer to be on the losing side in this year’s IPL. Reacting to the loss Iyer admitted that his team lagged behind in terms of runs. “I would say 10-15 short, 170-175 on the board would have looked completely different.” Iyer then further clarified as to what could have been the possible plan if Marcus Stoinis, the all-rounder had not got run out. “We really missed out when Stoinis got out, he was hitting the ball really well and also seeing the ball like a football, that was the main error that we did and something that we really need to work on,” he said. “Overall they outplayed us in all the departments. We need to work on our mindsets before the next game,” expected the captain. The 25-year-old praised spinners although expecting them to take more wickets. He also complained that the pitch became more batting-friendly in the second innings. “I thought the spinners were bowling well as the ball was coming onto the bat, it wasn't stopping as it was in the first innings. If we could have squeezed in two more wickets after the powerplay we would have been on top,” said Iyer. “There are still certain elements we have to work and we will use the break to work on that,” concluded Iyer after having confirmed that it would take at least one week for Rishabh Pant to come back to playing cricket. Expert Opinion For Experts, it was a field day as apart from cricket, Rafael Nadal had won his 20th grand slam, the joint-most by any male Tennis star. Sticking to cricket, most of the experts believed that Delhi Capitals were a few runs short in their innings. Giving his valuable point on this, veteran analyst Harsha Bhogle said that there were a lot of positives for Mumbai Indians from this game and foremost of them is the fact that there are different match-winners in every match. Cricketer turned commentator, Aakash Chopra raised yet another valid point saying that senior Mumbai batsman Suryakumar Yadav deserves to play for India. Former India opener Gautam Gambhir found his new love in Suryakumar, who batted magnificently to score 53 off just 32 balls. Veteran cricket expert Boria Majumdar called the dismissal of Stoinis as the most crucial moment for the Delhi Capitals where they lost 10-15 runs because of his run-out, as admitted by the captain Shreyas Iyer as well. Senior Sports journalist Gaurav Kalra, known for his witty tweets, entertained fans once again with his humor as he took a cheeky dig at Shikhar Dhawan who played a lot slower than he usually does. For both the Mumbai Indians and Capitals, it was a game to learn a lot from. While the Shreyas Iyer led team would be up against Rajasthan Royals in the next encounter while Mumbai will face Kolkata Knight Riders.
