Australia’s Nathan Ellis etched his name in the record books after scalping a hat trick on his T20I debut against Bangladesh on Friday (August 6, 2021) during the third encounter in Dhaka. He became the first bowler to achieve the feat.
The right-handed bowler’s wickets included the dismissals of Mahmudullah, Mustafizur Rahman and Mahedi Hasan on the trot in the last over.
Bangladesh’s Taijul Islam, South Africa’s Kagiso Rabada, Sri Lanka’s Wanindu Hasaranga and Shehan Madushanka have picked up hat tricks in their maiden ODI appearances.
Batting first, the home side were restricted to 127/9 in 20 overs. Bangladesh didn’t have a positive start to the proceedings and lost a couple of early wickets before Shakib al Hasan and Mahmudullah chipped in with a partnership of 44 runs for the third wicket.
Shakib eventually departed for 26 off 17 while captain Mahmudullah notched up a half-century. The hosts kept losing wickets at regular intervals and were left tottering at 97/6 before the innings concluded at 127/9.
Ellis returned with figures of 3/34 in 4 overs while Josh Hazlewood bagged a couple of wickets at the cost of 16 runs in 4 overs.
Australia are presently trailing the five-match series 0-2.
