Babar Azam's leadership will improve, but still needs good advice: Javed Miandad

Pakistan skipper Babar Azam can do no wrong lately. With the bat, he has been stockpiling runs like no one else (maybe Joe Root can stake a claim), all while enabling his team to win over the visiting West Indies.

In the recently concluded three-ODI series that Pakistan won 3-0, Azam notched 181 runs at an impressive average of 60.33.

Former Pakistan batting legend Javed Miandad has opened up on Azam's captaincy style and spoke about various aspects of Pakistan cricket.

According to cricketpakistan.com.pk, Miandad said, "Babar showed full potential in captaincy during the West Indies series. His leadership will improve with time but still needs good advice."

Miandad also spoke in detail about Shadab Khan, who is coming out of a rough patch.

"There are ups and downs in the game of players, but they need opportunities and encouragement. There's no doubt about his ability as an all-rounder, and he showed full potential when needed," the 1992 World Cup winner said.

He was quick to praise Shaheen Shah Afridi, whose meteoric rise on the international stage often lands him compared to the great Wasim Akram.

"Shaheen is an asset of the national cricket team; his future is bright and he can do great things if he keeps himself fit," the 65-year-old added.

Miandad also indicated that the Nicholas Pooran-led West Indies touring Pakistan was a welcoming sign.

"The tour will be instrumental in reviving cricket in the country. In the past too, Windies have enjoyed playing in Pakistan and I hoped they thoroughly enjoyed the recent tour as well," he noted.

The ICC Hall of Famer said that the series win is good in the long run for the Pakistan side.

"The series provided excellent opportunities for Pakistani players to showcase their talents and abilities.

The confidence gained from the victory will help further in the future. Despite being better than the opponent, the pressure on the Pakistan team due to the home series was a must but the players accomplished the task," Miandad concluded.
