In an unexpected move, former Zimbabwe captain Andy Flower has joined Australia's backroom staff for the upcoming WTC Final 2023 against India as a consultant. Flower will continue his role in the second half of the 'The Ashes 2023' as well for Australia when they clash against hosts England later this month.

This comes in as a major boost for Australia, with Flower's deep knowledge about Indian players having coached Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) recently.

The former Zimbabwe wicketkeeper-batter also coached England between 2009 and 2014, where his side won three Ashes series. The 55-year-old was seen at The Oval on Monday during Australia's training session.

Flower's credentials as a coach are unmatched, having won almost all T20 franchise leagues around the world except for the IPL, where LSG in both their years made it into the playoffs, but could not qualify for the finals.

Australia locks horns against India in the much-awaited WTC Final 2023 at The Oval tomorrow, where both teams will be battling it out for the Test mace.

Commencing straight after the WTC Final will be The Ashes on June 16 at Edgbaston.
