IPL and PSL both were suspended on May 7 and 8 respectively due to cross-border tensions between India and Pakistan. The tensions have eased a bit now, and both the leagues will resume from May 17. Thus, the two leagues will again run at the same time and PSL's final will be played on May 25.
BCCI's New Temporary Rule Creates Problems For PCB
IPL, on the other hand, will run till June 3, and currently both the leagues are facing issue of unavailability of overseas players. BCCI though has come up with a master plan to tackle the issue by brining in a rule of temporary replacement. The rule states that a franchise can take replacement for a player who is not willing to fly back to India or who will leave the team midway.
The players who will be selected will not be available for retention next year, but it has opened up an opportunity to fill some gaps for the franchises. As of now Mustafizur Rahman, William O'Rourke, Kusal Mendis and Kyle Jamieson have been selected as replacement under new rule. Two of those players, Kusal Mendis and Kyle Jamieson were part of Quetta Gladiators in PSL, but have decided to travel to India over Pakistan.
Foreign Players Itching For Opportunity To Play In IPL
Also, there are doubts over return of many other overseas players to Pakistan given the security issues in the country. Thus, many of these players might opt to come to IPL if they are asked to, potentially obtaining a valid cricketing result to not go to Pakistan. Also, the players are not likely to face the ban like Corbin Bosch did because the contract is supposed to end on May 18, the original date of the final of the competition.
Thus, IPL's new replacement rule is surely hurting Pakistan and PSL. The Indian Premier League is the biggest franchise league in the world, and no player wants to miss an opportunity to participate in it.
