Anamul Haque Bijoy is having a memorable season for Prime Bank in the coveted Dhaka Premier League. He has been a consistent performer and registered an unmatched feat not only in domestic cricket but also internationally.
The Bangladesh batter recently became the first player ever to have reached the 1000-run milestone in List-A cricket after scoring a century against Rupganj Tigers Cricket Club.
While he had already become the highest run-scorer in List-A cricket with his previous match showing against Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club. On April 24, the innings once again spoke of his calibre and consistency.
Against Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi, he had scored 52 runs to go past Tom Moody, whose 917 in 15 innings for Worcestershire in England’s Sunday League had remained at the top since 1991.
However, the thing that goes in favour of Bijoy is that he had taken only 13 innings to surpass the record of the Australian cricketer.
With the 112-knock against Rupganj Tigers, Bijoy now has 1042 runs off 14 innings. In the ongoing DPL, Bijoy has already smashed three hundred and eight half-centuries.
While before the 29-year old, former Kenya batter Steve Tikolo had scored 1227 runs in the Dhaka Premier League for the Mohammedan Sporting Club back in 2001, but the league was not recognised as a List-A tournament at that time.
Bijoy, who last featured in an ODI against Sri Lanka in 2019, will be eager to end the league on a happy note by scoring more runs in the last match scheduled to be played on April 28.
The compact right-hander has been in and out of the national team since his debut in 2012. With the kind of performance he has delivered, it will be interesting to see whether he gets a call back soon.
