Hazlewood- (Source:@Wisden/X.com)
In the latest developments, there are reports that Josh Hazlewood is all set to miss the upcoming Sri Lanka tour because of injury. According to reports, Hazlewood is yet to recover from the calf injury he suffered during the recently concluded Test series against India.
Notably, Hazlewood suffered a side strain injury and was ruled out of the 2nd Test, but later he developed a calf injury that ruled him out of the remaining two matches. According to a report from Crictracker, Hazlewood is on the course of recovery, and the selectors don't want to rush him to action as they have Champions Trophy 2025 that is less than two months away.
It is worth noting that Australia will tour Sri Lanka for a two-match Test series starting January 29. It is a dead rubber series as the baggy greens have already qualified for the WTC 2025 finals and will play against South Africa from June 11-15 at the Lord's.
The suspense around Hazlewood's participation will be cleared soon as the selectors are set to meet soon and expected to announce the 16-member squad on Thursday. It is worth noting that RCB too are sweating hard over Hazlewood's fitness as they roped in the right-arm seamer for a whopping 12.50 crores.
Pat Cummins To Also Miss Sri Lanka Tour
It will be a selection headache for the Australia selectors as regular skipper Pat Cummins is too touted to miss the Sri Lanka tour. Notably, the CA is worried about Cummins; workload management. Thus, Australia are likely to travel without Cummins and Hazlewood.
Further, there is no clarity over Mitchell Starc as well, as he too had injured his back during BGT. Thus, Australia would not take any risk there as well.
