BCCI to send reinforcements for injured players to England

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to send reinforcements to the UK after a couple of more players, Avesh Khan and Washington Sundar were ruled out of the England Tests with respective injuries. As per a report in The Times of India , the BCCI has decided to send replacements for the players. “It’s a conscious decision on part of the BCCI. Earlier, when it was just about one opener, the board decided there were two other options for that slot in Abhimanyu Easwaran and KL Rahul. But now a good all-rounder and an upcoming pacer have also been ruled out. Given the length of the tour, BCCI will have to send replacements,” TOI quoted a source as saying. The reports further added that Bhuvneshwar Kumar might also travel to the UK as he can be effective with the ball in those conditions and also prove handy with the bat. “Probably why Rahul Dravid decided not to play Devdutt Padikkal despite considering five replacements for Friday’s game. Bhuvneshwar Kumar could be in the mix too, considering he can bat and can be effective in English conditions,” the source told the paper. India are slated to play a five-match series against England beginning on August 4 in Nottingham.

ODI series between WI & Australia to resume after all members test negative of Covid-19

The members of the Australia and West Indies contingent have tested negative for the Covid-19, a day after the second match between the two sides was called off in Barbados. The clash was cancelled after a non-playing member of the West Indies squad tested positive. “Cricket West Indies is pleased to announce that all 152 persons tested for COVID-19 on Thursday evening returned negative results,” it said in a statement on Friday. The remaining two ODIs of the series will be played on Saturday and Monday (West Indies time). "We want to thank our counterparts at CA for their cooperation in this matter as we look to get the games going again," CWI president Ricky Skerrit said. "Special thanks to our CEO Johnny Grave, Chairman of Cricket Australia, Earl Eddings, his CEO Nick Hockley along with our respective medical and operations teams,” he added. "It has been a challenging two days and we have worked very swiftly and safely, following all the established medical protocols, to make sure that all necessary precautions are in place to ensure that we can go ahead to resume play safely, tomorrow. We will continue to monitor the situation and respond accordingly." The visitor lead the three-match series 1-0 at present after the Aussie pacers, Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood rattled the West Indies batting line up to bundle them out for 123 while chasing 257 in a rain-curtailed match.

Papua New Guinea appoint Australian Chadd Sayers Assistant Coach for maiden T20 World Cup campaign

Having played only one Test for Australia, after being in the reckoning for national call up for the most part of his domestic career, Chadd Sayers finally has his dream of getting to be a part of a World Cup team. But only that he would now be participating in the ICC T20 World Cup as Assistant Coach of Papua New Guinea who would be participating in their first-ever senior World Cup event. Carl Sandri, the Head Coach of the Barramundis was excited about a former Australian cricketer joining him and being part of the support staff. “Having a quality former player, coach and person like Chadd, who has only just retired from playing at the highest domestic level in Australia, will bring knowledge, experience and professionalism to our group,” he said. “We are extremely lucky to have him on board with the Barras and I’m looking forward to him having a positive impact on the squad,” Sandri added. Sayers, who has to his name a Test wicket of AB de Villiers and 320 First Class wickets playing for South Australia, feels privileged to become part of the PNG coaching staff and follow in the footsteps of another South Australian great Jason Gillespie, who coach the islanders for a brief period of time. “I’m excited to see what we can do at the tournament. I know the type of cricket the Barras can play having played against them a few years ago in South Australia. The energy and passion the Barras play with is infectious and I think we can surprise the World and make PNG proud to Back the Barras!,” said the 33-year-old Sayers. PNG became the first team to qualify for the T20 World Cup 2020 after they topped the group stage of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Qualifier 2019 in UAE. On the other hand, Mahmudullah was disappointed with his team’s effort and said, “We didn't have a good partnership and missed a few chances in the field.
