The Afghanistan Cricket Board would be reappointing Azizullah Fazli as its new Chairman and he would replace the sitting Chairman Farhan Yousefzai. Fazil, who was the board Chairman during the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 was removed from the post after a dismal showing by the team in England.
The Afghanistan Cricket Board stated that the President of the country is the Patron-in-Chief of the board and the Chairman is the head of the board. It is actually the Chief Executive Officer who takes administrative decisions. Currently, Dr Hamid Shinwari is the CEO of the board.
Afghanistan team are readying itself to take on Pakistan in a three-match ODI series scheduled to take place in Hambantota from September 1 to 5.
The situations in Afghanistan are very tense currently with the Taliban taking over the country and the current President Ashraf Ghani fleeing to Qatar, whether or not the series could take place is a question that could be best answered by time. The ACB had also been planning to host the Shpageeza Cricket League, Afghanistan's domestic T20 competition in Kabul later in September.
