The race for this year’s World Cup admission tickets reaches its final leg, as 2023 Cricket World Cup Qualifier is scheduled to take place from June 18 to July 9 in Zimbabwe.

As many as 10 teams will be participating in the three-week event, where the two finalists will be awarded the remaining two berths of the 2023 World Cup in India.

The 10 teams will be divided into two groups of five each, with Group A comprising of Nepal, Netherlands, United States, heavyweights West Indies and hosts Zimbabwe. Meanwhile, the Group B features Ireland, Oman, Scotland, UAE and Asian giants Sri Lanka.

2023 World Cup Qualifier format

The upcoming 2023 World Cup Qualifier serves as the culmination of the 2023 World Cup qualifying process.

The main event in India will be contested between 10 participants. Notably, eight of those slots have already been booked, courtesy of the 2020–2023 ICC Cricket World Cup Super League cycle.

Meanwhile, the 2023 World Cup Qualifier presents a final qualifying opportunity to those five teams which finished at number 9 till number 13 on the Super League points table. The qualifier tournament also provides an ultimate opportunity to five associate nations who climbed their way up the qualification ladder over a four-year period, 2019 till 2023.

Teams like West Indies and Sri Lanka missed direct World Cup qualification, considering they finished at number 9 and 10 respectively on the Super League table. They are followed by Ireland at number 11, Zimbabwe at 12 and Netherlands at 13.

The 2023 Qualifier will be played in a round-robin and a knockout format. After the group stage, the top three sides from each group will engage in a Super Six round. The two best sides of the Super Six stage will qualify for the finals, and will also earn tickets for the 2023 Cricket World Cup in India, set to be played in October and November later this year.

As many as four Zimbabwe venues will host the qualifier matches, with the iconic Harare Sports Club on line to host the tournament final on July 9.
