The ninth edition of the Women's T20 World Cup is scheduled to start on October 3rd, 2024. In the first match of the tournament, the hosts Bangladesh will take on Scotland at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium in the UAE. Notably, Bangladesh is the official host of the tournament. However, due to political unrest in the country, the matches have been shifted to the UAE.

The ten teams playing in the tournament have started preparing and are playing warm-up matches. India will be looking to win their first-ever World Cup in this tournament. Before the team begins their journey against New Zealand on October 4th, let us look deeper at the Indian team and analyse their strengths and weaknesses.

Strengths of the Indian Women's Team ahead of T20 World Cup 2024

Stable batting order

The Indian batting order, which includes Smriti Mandhana, Shafali Verma, Harmanpreet Kaur, Jemimah Rodrigues, and Deepti Sharma, looks pretty stable. These batters are known for their steady approach and consistency. A look at the line-up suggests that there will be rare instances of the Indian team suffering a batting collapse.

Variety and depth in the spin department

The wickets in the UAE will be slow, and the batters will find it difficult to score runs freely against the spinners. India have the likes of Asha Sobhana, Shreyanka Patil, Deepti Sharma, and Radha Yadav in its line-up. All these spinners are of different genres and will present different challenges to the opposition. On wickets that are expected to be close to the Indian surfaces, these spinners can script a dramatic run for the team.

Weaknesses of the Indian Women's Team ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024

Big stage fear

India have been one of the most consistent teams in Women's cricket for the past few seasons. They have made it to the final and semi-finals of some of the big tournaments. However, it seems like the players fail to deliver during the big games or on the big stages. The team has to keep themselves steady and compose their nerves if they are to win their first-ever world title.

Lack of outright power hitters

Most Indian batters like to spend some time on the crease before they can take the attack on the bowlers. Only Richa Ghosh looks like a batter who can be in her fifth gear from ball one. This lack of batters having the intent from the first ball might sometimes lead to a drop in the scoring rate and let the momentum slip from India's hand. To have a successful campaign, senior players in the middle order, like Harmanpreet Kaur and Jemimah Rodrigues, must be on their toes and adapt their game to the situation's demands.
