West Indies women will be playing against New Zealand women in the second semifinal of the Women's T20 World Cup 2024. This match will be played at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates on October 18 at 7:30 PM IST. 

West Indies women have had the most dramatic journey in the tournament so far. Their qualification to the semi-finals was hanging by the edeg after their first three games in the tournament. However, Hayley Matthews and her unit managed to win the last match against England and topped the group to find a place in the semi finals. They will be looking to go past this hurdle and keep themselves alive in the competition to win their second Women's T20 World Cup.

New Zealand, on the other hand, had a more or less smooth sailing through the league stage. They defeated India in their first match and gave themselves a much needed advantage pretty early in the tournament. Sophie Devine and her team needed a win in their last match against Pakistan to make it into the semi-finals and they completed the job with clinical precision. They will now try and overhaul the 2016 World Champions and book their berth in the summit clash of the tournament. 

How will the Sharjah Cricket Stadium's pitch behave?

The pitch at Sharjah has been a slow one with the spinners getting a lot of help from the track. As we have seen that it has been more difficult to bat in the second innings as the wicket has gotten slower and the ball has not come onto the bat to be enjoyed by the batter.

50% of the matches here have been won by the team won chasing. Although stats suggest that the pitch does not change much during the second innings, when the competition has been between teams of similar strength chasing has looked tough. So, the captain winning the toss might look to bat first.
