Team India routed West Indies with more than 27 overs to spare in the first ODI of their three-match series.

Kuldeep Yadav was fittingly adjudged as ‘Player of the Match’, as the ace spinner had claimed four wickets at the expense of just six runs in his three-over burst. Ravindra Jadeja also added three victims to his tally as the two spinners, along with much assistance from speedsters, dusted out West Indies for just 114. Later, the ‘Men in Blue’ hunted down the total off the back of Ishan Kishan’s sparkling 52 at the top.

After India’s big win over the hosts, here we look at all the records broken and statistical milestones unlocked in the one-sided affair at Bridgetown’s Kensington Oval.

Records tumbled in India’s five-wicket win

1. Team India registered its ninth consecutive win against West Indies in ODIs, thus forming their joint-fifth largest winning streak against any opponent in the format. India’s best streak remains their 15-match unbeaten run against Zimbabwe, the one which launched in 2010.

2. The ‘Men in Blue’ chased down the West Indies total with 163 balls in hand. The margin stands second largest in ODIs when a chasing side has lost at least five wickets in their pursuit. Sri Lanka’s win over Australia in Brisbane 2013 with 180 balls to spare remains the biggest margin for any side after losing five or more wickets.

3. Kuldeep Yadav claimed the seventh four-fer of his ODI career, thus eclipsing Sachin Tendulkar (six) and Harbhajan Singh (five) to level up with Yuzvendra Chahal. Among Indians, Yadav is now third highest in terms of claiming most ODI four-fers after Anil Kumble (10) and Ravindra Jadeja (eight).

4. Ravindra Jadeja, who finished with 3-37 off six overs, also pushed his ODI tally against West Indies to 44 wickets. The legendary all-rounder went past former captain Kapil Dev to become India’s all-time leading wicket-taker against West Indies in the format.

5. Both Jadeja and Yadav picked up seven wickets together in the match. It is now the first-ever instance of Indian left-arm spinners accounting for at least seven wickets in an ODI game.

6. West Indies survived just 23 overs in their innings before getting all out by the Indian bowlers. It is the second fewest number of overs they have faced in the first innings of an ODI upon getting all-out. Back in 2011, they faced just 22 overs to get shot out for 61 against Bangladesh.

7. The Indians bowled out West Indies in 23 overs to mark their joint-third best effort in ODI cricket, and their best in the first innings of a game. Previously, Rohit Sharma-led Indians shot out the Englishmen upfront in 25.2 overs in a 2022 ODI match at The Oval.

8. West Indies’ 114-run total is now their second worst batting effort against India in ODIs, and their worst in a home game against the ‘Men in Blue’. Their 104 all out back in 2018 in Thiruvananthapuram remains their lowest total against India in ODIs. Their latest debacle is also their joint-third lowest ODI total against any opponent in a home game.

9. Team India bettered their 1997 effort of registering their biggest win against West Indies in West Indies in terms of number of balls remaining. Back in 1997, they defeated West Indies in the Caribbean itself with 101 balls left in the bank.
