Pat Cummins added another feather to his cap after claiming his 100th Test wicket as Australian captain on Friday. He reached the landmark during the ongoing first Test against New Zealand in Wellington.

Cummins picked up his 100th wicket as Australian captain after claiming Daryl Mitchell’s wicket on day 2 of the Test. With that, he became only the second Australian captain after Richie Benaud to do so.

Prior to the start of the Test, he was just one wicket short of reaching the feat. The 30-year-old claimed the record on day 2 and returned with figures of 1 for 33 in 10 overs.

Overall, there are only 10 players in world cricket history to reach the landmark. Legendary Pakistan captain, Imran Khan tops the list with 187 Test wickets as Pakistan captain, followed by former Australian Richie Benaud with 138 wickets.

Australia take 217-run lead vs NZ at stumps on day 2

Meanwhile, the Australian team have taken a substantial lead of 217 runs at the end of day 2 at stumps in the first Test against New Zealand in Wellington. Cameron Green and Josh Hazlewood frustrated New Zealand in the first session on day 2 as the duo added 104 runs for the last wicket.

Cameron Green played a sensational unbeaten knock of 174 runs in 275 deliveries to help Australia post 393. New Zealand, in reply, crumbled to a 179-run all-out, thanks to a combined bowling performance from the Australians.

The seamers left them tottering at 29 for 5 before Will Young and Glenn Phillips steadied the ship with a 50-plus run partnership. Phillips top scored with a 71-run knock off 70 balls but New Zealand were eventually bundled out for 179, trailing by 204 runs.

Tim Southee left Australia in some trouble at 13 for 2 late in the day but the visitors are still well ahead in the match, taking a lead of 217 runs.
