The Champions Trophy is back after eight long years, and all teams are busy preparing for the same. The tournament will kickstart from 19th of February and all the focus has now shifted to 50-over format for all countries. However, IPL is lined-up just after the Champions Trophy and the franchises are expected to keep a keen eye on their performances of their players in the ICC event.
More importantly, the focus would be on the players who they have bought for the first time in IPL 2025 mega auction and a good performance in Champions Trophy would also help the franchise once the T20 extravaganza starts. Along with the franchise owners, the fans of the respective franchises will also keenly follow their players in Champions Trophy.
SRH is one team that created lot of buzz in the last edition with their aggressive intent and have bought some quality players in this season too. So, let's see who could be their three SRH buys for IPL 2025 that can make an impact in Champions Trophy 2025.
3. Brydon Carse
The England seam-bowling all-rounder Brydon Carse has been quite impressive in the last year or so and was bought by SRH for 1 Crore. He was a good budget pick for SRH, and is likely to provide balance to the England squad in Champions Trophy 2025. He has played 20 ODIs for far where he has picked 23 wickets and can use the long handle to good effect lower down the order.
Criterion | ODIs |
---|---|
Matches | 20 |
Wickets | 23 |
Runs | 202 |
Carse has an average of 22.44 in ODIs with the bat and has not hit a fifty, but has shown his batting prowess in first-class cricket. He has two hundreds and five fifties in county cricket and so Carse can be a good utility player with his all-round skills on flat decks in Pakistan. Also, Carse's bowling revolves around using plethora of variations which is always handy in subcontinent conditions and thus, Carse can be one of the new SRH players to watch out in this Champions Trophy.
2. Mohammed Shami
The Indian star bowler was out of action for more than a year after the 2023 World Cup, but SRH trusted his abilities and bought him for 10 Crore. He is now fit and is playing ODI series against England and is slowly but steadily getting into the groove. He is a proven-match winner and was the leading wicket-taker of the 2023 World Cup.
His ability to find movement off the decks on flat tracks is second to none and the pacer has a good bouncer along with other variations at his disposal. His ODI stats speak a lot about his wicket-taking abilities and in just 103 games, he has 197 wickets at an average of 23.96 with five fifers.
Criterion | ODIs | 2023 World Cup |
---|---|---|
Matches | 103 | 7 |
Wickets | 197 | 24 |
Average | 23.96 | 10.70 |
4w/5w | 10/5 | 1/3 |
Also, Shami has good record against Pakistan, New Zealand and Bangladesh - three teams in India's group for Champions Trophy and has 51 wickets in total 21 matches against these teams. Also, he is an experienced cricketer who has played in UAE in past and knows how to use the conditions to his advantage. The only worry is that he is coming after a long break and if it manages to overcome those fitness concerns he could be a big match-winner for India.
1. Adam Zampa
The leggie has been a match-winner for Australia in white-ball formats for quite a long time now. He was bought by SRH in IPL 2025 mega auction at 2.40 Crore and his skills in white-ball cricket has made him one of the leading bowlers in world cricket. He played a big role in Australia World Cup title in 2023 and was the second leading wicket-taker in the tournament with 23 wickets in 11 matches.
Overall, he has 180 wickets in just 106 matches at an average of 28.28. He has played three ODI matches in Pakistan so far where he has picked six wickets and it includes a four-wicket haul. Also, unlike Shami, he played 10 ODI matches in 2024 where he displayed his class once again and bagged 15 wickets.
Criterion | ODIs | 2023 World Cup |
---|---|---|
Matches | 106 | 11 |
Wickets | 180 | 23 |
Average | 28.28 | 22.39 |
4w/5w | 11/1 | 3/0 |
Also, Zampa has the ability to trouble the batters on flat decks with his accuracy and clever variations and if there is some help for the spinners, which subcontinent tracks generally offer, he could be lethal. Thus, Zampa is surely one of the new IPL buys of SRH to watch out in Champions Trophy 2025.
