Kartik Tyagi could be on MI's radar [Source: @IPL/X]
To the delight of cricket fans across the globe, the much-awaited IPL 2025 mega auction will be conducted on November 24 and 25 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. A total of 576 players will be up for grabs, with ten franchises engaging in multiple bidding wars to secure their services.
Regarding Mumbai Indians, the five-time champions have been abysmal in the last few seasons. Despite bringing Hardik Pandya back and naming him their captain, MI had a horrendous IPL 2024 season, finishing the tournament as the bottom-placed side. So, as they aim to revamp their core, let's analyse and find out who their targeted uncapped players could be in the mega auction.
Abdul Samad (Base Price- 30 lakhs)
Why will MI target Abdul Samad?
- Abdul Samad is an excellent lower middle order batter who can ensure fitting finishes for Mumbai Indians. After releasing Tim David, MI are searching for a dynamic lower middle order batter to assist Hardik Pandya in the finishing department.
- Samad's ability to hit high-pace hard-length bowling makes him a valuable asset for any T20 team. He has a base price of only 30 lakhs, so MI might be interested to rope him into their setup.
Kartik Tyagi (Base Price- 40 lakhs)
Why will MI target Kartik Tyagi?
- Promising Indian fast bowler Kartik Tyagi is known for his ability to bowl across phases. Apart from troubling the batters with his out-swing, Tyagi can hit the hard length and ask tough questions to the batters with his pace and accuracy.
- MI have retained only one pacer- Jasprit Bumrah, and hence, they need to rebuild their fast bowling department from scratch. In such a scenario, they might think of buying Tyagi, who can form a lethal bowling combination with Bumrah on Wankhede Stadium's seam-friendly track.
Piyush Chawla (Base Price- 50 lakhs)
Why will MI target Piyush Chawla?
- Despite representing India, Piyush Chawla enters this mega auction as an uncapped player, as he hasn't played an international game in the last five years. He was impressive for Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2024, emerging as their second most successful bowler in the tournament.
- Chawla, 36, still has plenty of cricket left and could be a useful spin-bowling option for MI in the IPL 2025. So, if the five-time champions persist with their traditional approach, they might once again decide to boost their batting and fast bowling, while using someone like Chawla as a makeshift spinner.
P.S: Notably, MI have retained five capped players and will likely use their RTM card for either Nehal Wadhera or Akash Madhwal. So, we haven't taken these two players' name into consideration for this article.
