On December 15, the 14th edition of BBL will kickstart with Perth Scorchers taking on Melbourne Stars at the Optus Stadium.

Ahead of the upcoming season, this article will shed light on the SWOT analysis of all teams. This piece will focus on Sydney Thunder, who won the BBL once in the 2015/16 season.

Sydney Thunder Squad For BBL 2024/25

Wes Agar, Cameron Bancroft, Sam Billings, Ollie Davies, Lockie Ferguson, Matthew Gilkes, Chris Green, Liam Hatcher, Sam Konstas, Nic Maddinson, Nathan McAndrew, Sherfane Rutherford, Will Salzmann, Daniel Sams, Jason Sangha, Tanveer Sangha, David Warner (c).

Strengths Of Sydney Thunder

Return Of David Warner As Captain

The upcoming season will mark the return of David Warner as a captain. He was banned by Cricket Australia from donning leadership duties after being found guilty of ball-tampering charges during the South Africa Test series.

Thus, Warner's experience will boost Thunder's chances of winning another title in the upcoming season.

Strong Middle-Order

Unlike other teams, Sydney have a strong middle-order. They are relying on overseas power to handle their middle order. The Thunder have Sam Billings and Sherfane Rutherford in the middle to provide the finishing touch for the Thunder.

Other than them, they have Ollie Davies and former skipper Chris Green in the middle-order to post big totals on the board.

Weakness For Sydney Thunder

Over-Dependence On David Warner

The one negative for Thunder is that Warner has a lot of responsibilities at the top. Alongside leading the side, he also has to set an example for the other batters at the start of the innings.

Warner has Sam Konstas as his opening partner, which is followed by Cameron Bancroft and Ollie Davies, who all are not at the finest touch with the bat.

Ghosts of BBL 2024 To Haunt Them

The Thunder finished last on the table last year as they won just one match and had just four points in 10 matches. Thus, the ghosts of last season will haunt them and it will be a psychological battle for Thunder to overcome in the upcoming season.
