One of the most successful teams in the IPL, Mumbai Indians have once again put together a balanced squad. MI is trying to bring back the glory days, and that was reflected in their approach to the IPL 2025 auction.
The Mumbai Indians seemed focused on their target players and were not seen in much action during the event besides their desired player under the hammer. They wanted specific men for specific roles, and at the end of the auction, one can say that they mostly got what they needed. However, there may be a few overseas players who might not get a game for the five-time champions during IPL 2025.

Mumbai Indians spent INR 75 Lakhs for this South African pacer. However, MI purchased Lizaad Williams as a backup plan. With pacers like Trent Boult, Jasprit Bumrah and Deepak Chahar in their squad, there are fewer chances that the team will call upon Williams. Even if one of the premier pacers has to sit out, they have someone like Reece Topley as a backup. So, it is most likely that Lizaad Williams will mostly warm the bench during IPL 2025.
2. Reece Topley

This English pace bowler has seen a change of teams from RCB to MI ahead of IPL 2025. Reece Topley was bought for INR 75 Lakhs by MI during the mega auction. Although he has not yet delivered too much in the IPL, Topley has shown that he can be very effective with the new ball in T20Is. However, MI have spent INR 12.50 Cr for Trent Boult to play the same role. With Boult in the mix, there is hardly a chance that Reece Topley will get a go-ahead of him. Although MI might look to try out the English pacer in a couple of matches, Topley is expected to warm the bench for most of the season.
1. Allah Ghazanfar
This young Aghan spinner has created a buzz with his bowling skills in the last few months. Mumbai Indians were left wanting a quality spinner in the last three or four seasons, so they went ahead and picked Allah Ghazanfar for INR 4.80 Cr. However, looking at the probable team combination, MI might use Mitchell Santner ahead of him because of his batting abilities. Now, this brings us to the four overseas players limitation in IPL in playing 12. With Will Jacks, Trent Boult, Ryan Rickelton and Mitchell Santner certain to start, Ghazanfar might have to sit out for most of the season.
